All Roads Lead to DeKalb:
A Presentation of Old Maps
Saturday, May 23 • 10 am-5 pm
Old Courthouse, Superior Court Room
The DeKalb History Center showcases a portion of its map collection. The collection, consisting of more than 300 maps, documents the development of DeKalb County over the past two centuries. The earliest map dates from 1730 (a reproduction), and the collection continues with maps of Civil War routes, 1924 Sanborn Fire Insurance maps, a 1928 topographical map of the county and a 1977 DeKalb County Comprehensive Land Use Map. Of particular interest is a map produced by Walter McCurdy showing the county as it existed in 1860 combined with an overlay of a more current (1986) DeKalb County road system. The exhibit provides a brief glimpse into the extensive collection. Certain copies will be available for immediate purchase. Additional selections will be made available upon request.
